Antonia Kao - Biography

* when i was a little girl, i wanted to be the 1st female president of the US, or an astronaut, or a poet. i liked push-up popsicles and suffered the death of the ants my parents exterminated in our backyard

* when i was older, i worked as a journalist, editor, teacher, sandwich maker at a gourmet deli, documentary filmmaker, fetish model, co-creator of an international grassroots support network for documentary filmmakers, peon for various projects, art model, photographer, web designer, and yoga instructor

* through this all, i sought Truth, God, the meaning of Life

* sometimes, i am as the deer, or the blades of grass, and then i am not seeking, or struggling; i am just BEing

Artist Statement

* mostly, i surrender, and let Divinity flow through

"The circumstance of existence, in and of itself, is disheartening. That is why it is necessary to do art. Art is an essential response to the conditions of existence, a means by which limitations are transcended, Reality is Realized, Truth is Realized, Light is found. Without that activity, there is nothing but this intrusion of changes and death. Participation in an art form should be at least as great as that art form. Art should change you. That is the whole purpose of it. True art heals. True art restores equanimity. Art must regenerate the sense of well-being. That is its true purpose. When art is really useful, it serves this ultimate process of healing, well-being, higher sympathy, and Spiritual Awakening....True art is not merely the product of a hero or heroine who is able to transcend himself or herself and create something which is then to be passively admired by others. Participation in an art form should be a great exercise that enables you to transcend yourself. True art has a purpose for others, not merely a purpose for the artist."
